Blended format means students participate in an 8-hour seminar followed by seven weeks of online sessions and a 30-hour practicum. Both online sections meet weekly for 90 minute sessions using Elluminate Live! Seminars will be offered in Anchorage.

Course description:
This course builds on strategies learned in DLS A205, Teaching Social Skills to Youth in Residential Care. Students will extend knowledge of Learning Theory to assessments of behaviors and appropriate interventions. By the end of the course, students should be able to develop behavior support plans using non-aversive interventions for challenging and problematic behaviors.
Course Objectives:
Students who successfully complete this course will:
- Distinguish between behavior modification, behavior management, and positive behavior supports.
- Demonstrate understanding of when to consider positive behavior support as a behavioral intervention.
- Demonstrate understanding of the steps of the positive behavior support process.
- Demonstrate ability to complete a functional assessment and analysis of problem behavior.
- Identify and implement strategies to replace challenging behaviors with desired behaviors.
